FUE Hair Transplant Procedure

How Does a Hair Transplant Work?

Although techniques can vary between clinics and patients, a typical hair transplant involves several stages.

1. Consultation and Assessment

Before the procedure, a doctor evaluates your:

  • Pattern and severity of hair loss
  • Donor hair density
  • Hair thickness and characteristics
  • Scalp condition
  • Existing hairline
  • Expected future hair loss

This assessment is important because not everyone is a suitable candidate for a hair transplant.

2. Designing the Hairline

The doctor designs the new hairline based on factors such as your age, facial structure, existing hair loss, and available donor hair.

A well-designed hairline should look natural rather than artificially straight or overly dense.

3. Extracting the Hair Follicles

Hair follicles are harvested from the donor area. The extraction technique depends on the method being used.

The most commonly discussed techniques include FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation).

4. Preparing the Recipient Area

Small openings or channels are created in the areas receiving the transplanted follicles.

The angle, direction, and placement of these openings are extremely important because they influence how the transplanted hair will eventually look.

5. Implanting the Follicles

The harvested follicles are carefully placed into the recipient area.

The surgeon or medical team typically considers the natural growth direction of the patient's existing hair when positioning the grafts.
